چکیده

P. Dube N. Halim K. Karenos M. Kim Z. Liu S. Parthasarathy D. Pendarakis H. Yang In this paper, we present Harmony, a holistic messaging middleware for distributed, event-driven systems. Harmony supports various communication paradigms and heterogeneous networks. The key novelty of Harmony is the unified provision of endto-end quality of service, security, and resiliency, which shields the applications from the underlying network dynamics, failures, and security configurations. We describe the Harmony architecture in the context of cyber-physical business applications and elaborate on the design of its critical system components, including routing, security, and mobility support.

Message-Oriented Middleware with QoS Awareness

Publish/subscribe messaging is a fundamental mechanism for interconnecting disparate services and systems in the service-oriented computing architecture. The quality of services (QoS) of the messaging substrate plays a critical role in the overall system performance as perceived by the end users. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of Harmony, an overlay-based messaging syst...

Asynchronous Geospatial Processing: An Event-Driven Push-Based Architecture for the OGC Web Processing Service

Geospatial processing tasks like solar potential analyses or floodplain investigations within flood scenarios are often complex and deal with large amounts of data. If such analysis operations are performed in distributed web-based systems, technical capabilities are mostly not sufficient. Major shortcomings comprise the potentially long execution times and the vast amount of messaging overhead...

A Policy Management Framework for Content-Based Publish/Subscribe Middleware

Content-based Publish/Subscribe (CPS) is a powerful paradigm providing loosely-coupled, event-driven messaging services. Although the general CPS model is well-known, many features remain implementation specific because of different application requirements. Many of these requirements can be captured in policies that separate service semantics from system mechanisms, but no such policy framewor...

Performance Evaluation and Comparison of Distributed Messaging Using Message Oriented Middleware

Message Oriented Middleware (MOM) is an enabling technology for modern event-driven applications that are typically based on publish/subscribe communication (Eugster, 2003). Enterprises typically contain hundreds of applications operating in environments with diverse databases and operating systems. Integration of these applications is required to coordinate the business process. Unfortunately,...

Integrating Notifications and Transactions: Concepts and X2TS Prototype

Event-based architectural style promises to support building flexible and extensible component-oriented systems and is particularly well suited to support applications that must monitor information of interest or react to changes in the environment, or process status. Middleware support for event-based systems ranges from peer-to-peer messaging to message queues and publish/subscribe event-serv...
